This interesting, but, confusing note comes to us from Zlatica Beca in
Czechoslovakia via the RootsWeb.com message board:

Hi Carol

After posting, I noticed your other ancestral names.
FARMACKA is male and FARMACKOVA female
KRIVANEK is male and KRIVANKOVA female
CERNOHORSKY is male and CERNOHORSKA female
That just how it is in Czech as well as Slovak language.

All of your ancestral names list in South-Moravia region.
For any ancestral information you will either need to send a request to the archive in Brno or hire a genealogist in CZ to do the research for you. I have posted 3 genealogists website in previous post. I do not know them personally.

It's little facts like this that keep Genealogy research interesting (ahhh.. how about frustrating).  No wonder many immigrant names were changed by the people processing them into America.  Also, after all these years listening to my mother-in-law talk about the Czech language I never really picked up on this little tid-bit.  I showed this note to her today and the response was, "Of course, its always been that way."  No wonder I couldn't get the family names to match up.  Bummer.
